What is 94VO?
PCB 94V0 refers to a flame retardant standard for printed circuit boards (PCBs), which is part of the UL (Underwriters Laboratories) certification. The 94V0 standard mainly evaluates the flammability of materials, including flame retardancy, self-extinguishing, flame resistance, flame retardancy, fire resistance, etc., to assess the material’s ability to resist combustion under specific conditions. Specifically, the 94V0 standard is to ignite a sample of flammable material with a flame that meets the requirements, then remove the flame, and assess the flammability level based on the degree of combustion of the sample. This classification helps ensure the safety performance of electronic products, especially in high temperature and high pressure environments, and can provide strong carrying capacity to ensure the normal operation of the circuit.
PCB boards can be divided into two categories according to their different flame retardant properties: flame retardant (UL94-VO, UL94-V1) and non-flame retardant (UL94-HB). 94V0 boards are mostly used for double-sided boards and multi-layer boards due to their high flame retardancy, while 94HB boards are mostly used for single-sided boards due to their lower flame retardancy. In addition, PCB circuit boards that meet the V-1 fire rating requirements are called FR-4 boards, while V-0, V-1, and V-2 are further subdivisions of the fire rating.
In general, the PCB 94V0 standard is an important indicator for evaluating the flame retardant performance of PCB boards, which is crucial to ensuring the safety and reliability of electronic products.
